Back-of-the-Box
Our story begins deep in murky, watery depths. You’re James Bond, and you’re drifting, unconscious. You don’t know
why – only that you’re struggling for your life like never before. In moments of cognizance, you recall epic moments
from the last 50 years. The harrowing chases. The uber-villains. The exotic locales. The girls.
What will be your legend if this is the end?
In 007 Legends, you’ll take on the role of James Bond as played by Daniel Craig, running missions in the most iconic
settings of 007’s five-decade film history.

You Know Where You Are? You’re In The Jungle, Baby
The idyllic beaches, lush jungles, and warm weather make the South Pacific islands intriguing vacation destinations, but the region also has a darker side. From blackbirding in the 19th century to seedy drug and human trafficking operations in modern times, visits to these remote locations aren’t always memorable for the right reasons. When a group of trust-fund kids unknowingly parachute onto an island inhabited by pirates, their sheltered, picture-perfect life is given a cruel dose of reality.

The big games of 2011 are almost all out, but EA's Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is waiting in the wings to usher in 2012. Take a look at how the game's shaping up.

The screens below highlight both the game's environments and its combat, two elements that the development team over at Big Huge Games hopes set the game apart. Amalur's combat is more action focused than your average RPG with its timed button presses, and the world's lore was created by author R.A. Salvatore.

The name id Software rings of nostalgia. Franchises like Wolfenstein, Doom, and Quake laid the groundwork for the first-person shooter genre, and I can still see their designs influencing many of today’s new releases. Despite the studio’s pedigree, it hasn’t developed an FPS title since 2004’s Doom 3. The genre has changed significantly in the years that have followed. Franchises like Half-Life and Call of Duty are the genre’s trendsetters. Now, id Software makes its long-awaited FPS return with a new franchise called Rage. Can the father of the FPS reemerge as the powerhouse it once was, or will it be playing catch-up to the genre’s latest trends? The answer is a little of both.

The first installment of the Elder Scrolls V development diaries sheds light on the challenge of creating a compelling and unique fantasy setting.

When returning to the Elder Scrolls after working on Fallout 3, the art team at Bethesda Studios knew it wanted to go a different direction from Oblivion, which adhered closely to the traditional medieval look. After experimenting with several radical design departures, the team gravitated toward a more gritty theme influenced by Conan and ancient Viking lore.

Battlefield players have long been able to keep track of their in-game statistics through a connected web interface, and Battlefield 3 is no different. As DICE tells it, the new Battlelog network offers players a wealth of social networking features at no additional cost.

The developers provide a guided tour of some of Battlelog's functionality in the clip below. Battlelog allows players to chat in real time with one another, giving remorseless gloaters yet another tool in their psy-ops kit. In addition to monitoring your own stats and career progression, you can check out how your friends are doing in the game. Leaderboards can be sorted by friends as well, giving run-of-the-mill soldiers a chance to at least show their dominance among their buddies.
